Introduction

Tony ProudfootDear friends, colleagues, and fans,

On June 28th, 2007, I announced that I have Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Once I dealt with the shock of the diagnosis and I realigned the priorities in my life, I decided to turn the cards that I have been dealt into a positive experience. I wanted to be proactive and take advantage of the privileged relationships that I have enjoyed over my professional career.

I wanted to be part of the team to raise awareness and funds to help people living with this disease and to assist in finding the cause and cure.

In light of what has affected my life, my family and I are happy to announce the creation of "The Tony Proudfoot Fund", in conjunction with The ALS Society of Quebec. The funds raised will be used for the Tony Proudfoot Post-Doctoral Fellowships in ALS Research at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), McGill University and the McGill University Health Centre (MNI). The fellowships provide funds for cutting-edge research at the MNI. The hope and belief is that the research will lead to new therapies and renewed hope for the thousands of Canadians affected by this devastating degenerative disease.

In addition to supporting research, Tony's Fund helps improve the living conditions for people living with ALS and provide support for their family members through programs accross the province.

I encourage everyone to not watch from the sidelines and become an integral part of our team. You can help us tackle ALS. Participate in events, make a donation or volunteer.

Anything you can do will help make a difference and assist us in reaching the goal line and scoring the ultimate touchdown: a cure for ALS.
